The Good Email Workshop: Stop Emailing Into a Void
A live 2-hour workshop for small business owners who want their emails to get results by building real connections with customers
You’ve got their sign-up and you’re in their inbox. Is it paying off?
Most small business owners appreciate the value of a newsletter for their business, and this could be you too if you’ve got a sign-up on your website.
But it running an ebulletin can still feel like this:
You’re emailing into the void. You can’t tell whether anyone is reading, so it’s hard to know what to write next.
It’s ad hoc. You wait until you have inspiration for content to send: email is a nagging worry, rather than an established habit.
You’re doing it alone. It all falls to you, and there’s no one to bounce ideas off or keep you going.
The list isn’t growing. It’s starting to feel stale, and it’s hard to see why the effort is worth it.
The automations are out of date, or you never set them up. A welcome email written years ago may still be going out.
None of this means email doesn’t work. Usually the basics just haven’t been set up to support you.
What it could feel like instead
Email as a regular, comfortable part of your routine. A list that’s growing. A clear idea of what your readers respond to. And customers who feel they have a 1 to 1 relationship with you, while it only takes you the time required to draft one email because you’re emailing everyone at once.
That matters because email is one of the lowest-cost ways to market your business. When people hear from you regularly over a long time, those repeated touchpoints help them decide to buy for the first time, come back to buy again, and remember you when a friend or family member is looking for what you offer.
How the workshop gets you there
In 2 hours, live, with case studies from small business owners who already use email well, we’ll work through:
Reading your numbers. A simple way to use opens, clicks and unsubscribes to see what your readers respond to, so you’re no longer guessing.
Ways to develop a content plan and a regular slot. So email becomes a habit rather than a worry.
Growing your list. Practical ideas so it becomes something that feels like a dynamic part of your business, which rewards the investment of your time.
Automation and personalisation. Ideas for the best ones to use to make customers feel they’re getting a personal message, plus how to write welcome emails that don’t go out of date.
Doing it with others. You’ll meet other business owners working on the same thing, to swap ideas and keep each other going.
You’ll leave with
A simple method for tracking your email numbers
An approach to creating content plan
A commitment to pinning down a regular email slot
Some examples for welcome sequences you can try straight away
Supportive connections with fellow newsletter creators
Who it’s for
Small business owners who already have an email sign-up and want it to do more. You don’t need to be an expert in email, and you don’t need a big list.
Who it’s not for
If your emails are already bringing in sales, a growing list and regular feedback, this probably isn’t the workshop for you.

How to use good email marketing
Looking for cost-effective ways to raise your profile with existing customers, encourage loyalty and win repeat business? This workshop is designed to inspire you.
It’s also for you if you want new customers to know, love and trust your business from their very first interactions.
Maybe you’ve tried email marketing and lost heart?
Perhaps you weren’t seeing results, or you find it all too easy to avoid sitting down to write a regular email. In this workshop I’ll introduce you to some busy small business owners (including me!) who have found a way to make email marketing part of their business, and have reaped the benefits.
What you’ll take away
Real, behind-the-scenes examples of how small businesses use email to build connections
Ideas for creating content your customers enjoy reading
A chance to bring your own questions and issues for us to explore together
Hope and inspiration for what’s possible! Even when time, energy and resources are short - because, let's face it, when are they not?!
Why use relationship-building email?
It’s a genuine antidote to the flashier “buy my special offer now” marketing often seen on social media. Its steadier rhythm and longer form help people “visit” with you regularly. They may event get to know more about your business than you realise you’re sharing. And you can use your content to build their understanding of the value of what you offer.
Get a head start: the pre-event series
Once you’ve registered, you’re eligible to sign up for my pre-event email series ahead of the workshop featuring conversations with small business owners already using email marketing. Some of them will join us in the workshop.
